Windows insiders who try out the current test version of Windows 11 will find a new, extremely practical function in the image editing program Paint that comes with Windows. Because Paint now has a button with which you can immediately remove the background of the image that is currently open in Paint. One click and the entire background is gone. Microsoft presents this useful innovation in this blog post.
savings tip: Buy Windows 11 for just 70 euros instead of 259 euros (RRP).
This is particularly interesting for users who often want to quickly edit photos from their smartphones, but are not very familiar with image editing techniques or do not want to deal with them in more detail. Or for Gimp users: This free and powerful image editing program is pretty much the exact opposite of what you mean by intuitive and easy to use: Gimp for beginners – the best tips for image improvement.
Here’s how you can test the new feature
Microsoft is currently delivering the new Windows 11 test version with this improved Paint to insider testers in the Dev and Canary channels. We explain here how you can take part in the Insider Program.
Once installed, you will find the new Remove Background button in the Image section of the toolbar. The new button isolates the image subject in isolation and removes all background around the subject when clicked. Here in Microsoft’s blog post you can see an animation showing the new feature in action.
Alternatively, you can mark an area with the rectangular marquee tool and then remove the background in this marked area with the new button. According to initial reports, the new function should work very reliably. And this regardless of how busy the background is or how many color gradients the background has.
The new background removal feature is included in Paint 11.2306.30.0 and later. If it is not yet available to you, you should be patient until Microsoft rolls it out for your trial version.
Microsoft welcomes feedback on the new feature via the Feedback Hub. You start this in Windows with the keyboard shortcut Windows key and F.
