The American IT expert Zac Bowden is a proven Windows connoisseur. Bowden now predicts that Windows 12 will no longer be released in 2024, as Windows watchers have suspected for some time. Statements from an Intel manager have also been interpreted to mean that Microsoft could introduce Windows 12 in 2024. Instead, the Windows 11 successor is not expected until 2025.

Microsoft is focusing on Windows 11 Update 24H2
Microsoft is currently focusing on developing the next major fall update for Windows 11. This is Windows 11 version 24H2 “Hudson Valley”. According to Bowden, 24H2 will be a bigger update than 23H2. According to Bowden, it is based on a new version of the Windows platform. In addition to improvements in performance and security, this would “also bring notable new features and quality improvements”.

Above all, Windows 11 24H2 should be based on AI. According to rumors, the next generation of Microsoft Copilot for Windows will be on board 24H2. The new Copilot is intended to improve the Windows interface with AI and machine learning to increase productivity in apps, search and other areas of use. Microsoft is currently testing some of the new features of Windows 11 24H2 in the Insider Canary channel. Microsoft wants to complete these innovations in the summer of 2024.
Windows 12 not until 2025
Because of these profound improvements, some observers expect that Microsoft could already introduce 24H2 as “Windows 12”. But Bowden thinks that's unlikely. Among other things, because the former Windows boss Panos Panay left Microsoft. That would probably not be good timing for the introduction of a new generation of Windows.
Bowden expects 24H2 to be released in September 2024. Since 24H2 is based on a new Windows platform, upgrading from Windows 11 23H2 to Windows 11 24H2 would replace the entire operating system with a new version.
