Enhancements for Windows 11 Widgets and Settings Menu
Microsoft is introducing two significant updates for Windows 11. The company is now allowing third-party developers to create widgets for the operating system using HTML served from a remote URL. This new feature is part of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4800 (Beta Channel).
Prior to this update, developers could only use the Adaptive Card Scheme format to create widgets. Microsoft had previously limited the HTML development process to users in the European Economic Area, but this restriction has now been lifted.
Top Cards: This is in your Windows PC
In addition to the widget update, Microsoft is also introducing a new feature called “Top Cards” in the Settings menu. This feature provides a brief overview of the components in your Windows PC, including the processor, graphics card, and installed RAM.
The Top Cards feature can be accessed by navigating to the About section in the Settings menu (Settings > System > About). While the information provided is minimal, it’s useful for users who want a quick snapshot of their system’s components.
