Microsoft has released its latest Canary build, version 26040, on its Insider channel. This brings with it some innovations, including a change to the Windows 11 installation screen – this has not been updated for years.
To be precise, the installation screen hasn’t changed much since Windows 8. The Redmond company had only adapted the logo including the background over the years.
Setup window has been adjusted
In the new Windows 11 version, the operating system repair option is placed much more prominently. While this was previously a small option in the bottom left corner, it is now in the middle of the setup window and can be selected there.

There is now a “Support” button at the bottom left, but it is probably not completely sophisticated yet. Clicking on this currently only opens a window with a URL that you can type. However, nothing changes in the other setup windows.
Further adjustments
- Android Photos & Screenshots: Photos or screenshots taken on an Android device can be edited directly in the snipping tool on the PC. As soon as you take a new photo or screenshot on the Android device in the future, the user will also receive a notification on the PC and can import and edit the images immediately.
- Voice Clarity: The Voice Clarity feature, previously only available on Microsoft Surface devices, is now available to all users. This is basically an AI function that independently improves the audio quality of calls and video conferences.
- USB at 80Gbps: Support for the latest USB standard 4.2.0. finds entry. Initially only on selected devices with mobile 14th generation Intel Core HX processors.
- Narrator: This gets a new key combination for navigating between images and text as well as improved text recognition in images.
- Task manager icon: This has been updated and now has a design language that better suits Windows 11.
- Casting: Has been slightly improved and made easier to use.
- LAPS: The Windows Local Administrator Password Solution has been updated with new features including automatic account management, improvements to passwords & passphrases.
- There are of course many small improvements and bug fixes. All changes can be viewed on Microsoft’s official Windows blog.
