Wimbledon: Schwartzman lost and there are no Argentines left

Diego Schwartzmannseeded twelfth, became this Thursday the last Argentine tennis player eliminated from Wimbledonthird Grand Slam of the season, losing to the British Liam Broady (132) in five sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-7 and 6-1 After more than three and a half hours of play.

The defeat of “Peque” was the product of a commendable reaction by Broady, 28, who did not hesitate to describe his triumph as “the most important” of his career tennis.

After winning 6-0 in the third and coming within a set of victory, Schwartzman seemed on track to enter R3 for the third consecutive edition but Broady bounced back with his powerful lefttook good advantage of the spaces on the court, forced the tie break and finally took the set against a rival who had already lost his confidence.

The deterioration of the Argentine’s game was confirmed in the last setwhich the British was able to close comfortably to take revenge for the defeat suffered against “Peque” in the same instance of Wimbledon 2021.

Schwarztman had reached the second round in singles after beating American Stefan Kozlov and his farewell is the last of an Argentine player in the singles draw, after those suffered by Tomás Etcheverry, Federico Coria, Federico Delbonis, Facundo Bagnis, Francisco Cerúndolo and Sebastian Báez.
