Wilder’s April Comeback Sparks Questions About His Boxing Future

Deontay Wilder’s boxing career has been on a downward spiral since his consecutive losses to Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2021. The ‘Bronze Bomber,’ known for his powerful punches rather than technical skills, has only managed to defeat Robert Helenius since then. His recent defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, the latter resulting in a hard knockout, have raised concerns about his ability to compete at the top level.

Upcoming Fight in April

According to journalist Manouk Akopyan, Wilder is set to return to the ring in April, with his opponent to be announced this Saturday. The fight will be broadcast on the BKL Prime streaming service, a relatively unknown platform that has hosted fights featuring Terence Crawford and Adrien Broner. As the 13th-ranked boxer in the World Boxing Council (WBC) list, Wilder will need to face tougher opponents to climb the ranks and potentially challenge for the title.

No Fight Against Anthony Joshua

Wilder’s highly anticipated fight against Anthony Joshua will not happen in the near future, as Joshua has a contract with DAZN, a more prominent platform that offers greater visibility and better pay. Wilder’s return to the ring will likely be against a lesser opponent, which may not generate the same level of excitement.

Challenges Ahead

Wilder’s victory against Helenius may have given him false hope, as he has not shown the same level of physical fitness as he did during his trilogy with Fury. At 39 years old, Wilder’s aggressive fighting style, which relies on his powerful punches, may not be enough to compete against the best boxers in the category.
