Mithun Chakraborty was one of Bollywood’s biggest stars in the 1980s. This was the same era when Amitabh Bachchan ruled the industry. Even the best would pale in comparison to his fame. At such a time, Mithun created a special place for himself amidst the same fame. During this time, Mithun was even called the “Amitbha Bachchan of the poor”.
However, during an interview, Mithun Chakraborty had said that he said this in praise of himself. He had said that this was his “biggest compliment” yet. Mithun had said in an interview with ETC, “Amitabh Bachchan is the ‘biggest star of the century’.
Mithun had said, “At that time Amitabh was making films under big banners and I had no banners.” But my films almost did a good business. That’s why people started saying that he was also Amitabh Bachchan but a poor man.
Mithun had told that Amitabh used to work in big budget films while he used to work in small budget films. And at that time, according to the budget, the income of both types of films was equal to their budget. He further said that people even said that me and Amitabh are the two pillars of the industry and this is the biggest compliment I have received so far.
Mithun’s son Namashi had also reported an incident in an interview with ETC. Namashi said that more than 45 years have passed since their friendship. He said that when Amitabh saw his father traveling with the crew during the shooting of a film in Shimla, he politely asked him to stop his car and come with him.
Due to Mithun Chakraborty’s deteriorating health, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata. He was admitted to the emergency room after complaining of chest pain. The hospital has issued an official statement on the actor’s health, saying that he suffered a brain stroke. Many tests were carried out on him. The statement also said that his condition is now fine and he is conscious.
