¿Quiénes reforzarán al Licey en la Serie del Caribe?

Audo Vicente, general manager of the Tigres del Licey revealed several names that will be part of the preliminary roster of the Dominican team that will participate in the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.
Robinson Cano, Junior Lake, Webster Rivas, Kelvin Gutiérrez, Ramón Torres, Yunesky Maya, Yamaico Navarro, Williams Jerez, Román Méndez, Keury Mella and Raúl Valdés were included in the list with the option of reinforcing the team for the Caribbean Series.

While Jorge Alfaro, Colombian reinforcement and MVP of the final series confirmed that he will participate with the Tigers in the 65th edition of the Caribbean classic.

Raúl Valdés saw action with the Tigers, after being selected as a reinforcement in the Reentry Draft from the Eastern Bulls. He had five starts between the Round Robin and the final. He allowed 8 runs in 33.1 innings, for a 2.31 ERA, along with 21 strikeouts. Keury Mella, also from the Bulls, reinforced Licey and in seven innings of work he allowed 4 runs.

Yamaico, who at one point was one of the most productive hitters in the Dominican league when he was with the Blues, could put on the Licey cap once again.
He ended up playing with the Gigantes del Cibao in the Round Robin stage and put up a .316 batting average, connecting with 18 hits in 15 games. He also drove in 13 runs. Webster Rivas and Kelvin Gutiérrez, from the Gigantes del Cibao, could be good options to occupy third base and catcher.

Yunesky Maya, from the eaglet team, is another interesting name on this list. Even though she didn’t finish very well in the Round Robin, she has always said present when requested. The Cuban is as Dominican as anyone. He was punished in the semifinal, he allowed 11 earned runs in 13 innings. Ramón Torres, infielder for the Águilas, could be used as a utility.

Robinson Cano, Junior Lake, Roman Mendez and Williams Jerez of the Estrellas Orientales are also on the list. They were rivals of the Tigers in the final series. Cano had 6 hits in 21 at-bats. Lake hit 4 of 20 chances. Mendez was the cloth of tears for Fernando Tatis in the eastern relay.

He had 16 strikeouts in 21 innings. Jerez worked 13 innings on the season and allowed 3 runs. Vicente said that Cano reported since the end of the final series and said that if they needed him, he was inside. Cano participated in the last Caribbean Series, held in Santo Domingo with the Gigantes del Cibao, driving in 8 laps with 8 hits.

Those who don’t go
He also let us know who will not be able to continue for the event that will take place from February 2 to 10 in Venezuela. Ronny Mauricio, who participated throughout the season with the Tigres del Licey, will not wear the Dominican jacket for the Caribbean Classic.

Vicente said that he has finished his work plan for the winter, after exhausting nearly 800 shifts, between the minor league circuit and winter baseball. His organization of the New York Mets was satisfied with the work done in the Dominican league.
Mauricio drove in 37 laps in 67 games with the Tigers, counting the three stages of the regular series, Round Robin and final series.

While relievers Oliver Ortega, recently arrived from the Minnesota Twins and Jean Carlos Mejía, from the Milwaukee Brewers will not play either, as they were detained by their respective organizations.

Until Friday night, the operations group of the Tigres del Licey, headed by Audo Vicente, worked on the formation of the group.
