Political career
Born on July 24, 1981 in San Salvador, Bukele comes from a family of Palestinian and Salvadoran origins. His political rise began in 2012 when he was elected mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán by the left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) party.
