Sandeep Singh Story: Sandeep Singh, a former captain of the Indian hockey team and sports minister in the Haryana government, appears to be embroiled in much controversy. A female trainer has made serious allegations of sexual harassment against Sandeep Singh, after which he had to step down from his ministerial post. As soon as the allegation came out, Sandeep handed over his ministry to the Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, saying that he would take over the responsibility of the Sports Minister only after the investigative report of the whole matter.
Talking about Sandeep, he was the star player of Indian hockey. Sandeep, 36, planted many flags in sports before dabbling in politics. Born in 1987, Sandeep Sultan became the youngest Indian player to participate in the Azlan Shah Cup. Following this, he participated in the Athens Olympic Games in the year 2004 and during that time he also became the youngest Indian hockey player to play in the Olympic Games.

At one point, Sandeep was quickly making his mark in Indian hockey and began to be counted among the stars of the country. But an accident with him nearly ended his hockey career. Accident victim during train journey
In reality, Sandeep was traveling on the Shatabdi train with his partner Rajpal Singh, and during the journey, he was accidentally shot in the back by a guard from the Railway Protection Force. Due to this, he was admitted to PGIMER, Chandigarh for a long time and stayed away from hockey for a long time. However, Sandeep did not give up and returned to play hockey for India two years later in 2008 through the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He scored a total of nine goals in that tournament.
India made history under Sandeep’s captaincy
Sandeep Singh was appointed as the captain of the Indian hockey team in the same year 2009 and under his captaincy, India won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup title after 13 years. Sandeep scored six goals in this tournament and for that he was voted the best player. Under Sandeep’s leadership, India made it to the 2012 London Olympics, where his own contribution was important.
He scored more than 150 goals in his career
Talking about the skill of the former Indian captain, people started calling him by the name ‘Flicker Singh’ due to his play. Sandeep used to drag-flick at a speed of 145 kmph at the time, which was considered the fastest in the world. He scored more than 150 goals for India in his career and played his last cap in 2016.
Entry into politics in 2019
After retiring from the hockey field, Sandeep Singh turned to politics and contested Pehowa’s 2019 Haryana Assembly election on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket, defeating Mandeep Singh of the then Congress by over 5000 votes. The party also benefited from Sandeep’s popularity and he became a Sikh face for the BJP in Haryana, after which he was appointed sports minister in Manohar Lal Khattar’s government.

The development came a day after the Chandigarh police registered a case against Singh over the complaint of a youth athletics coach from the state. Singh has also been accused of taking hostages and threatening the coach.
