Which European country will now export its prisoners?

Denmark will repatriate 300 inmates to Kosovo in exchange for more than کروڑ 15 million a year.

Trade agreements between the two countries are not uncommon. Export and import agreements are usually related to commodities, industrial and military equipment, etc., but there is an agreement between two European countries, Denmark and Kosovo, on the import and export of prisoners.

According to foreign media, Denmark has signed an agreement with Kosovo. Under the agreement, Denmark will send 300 prisoners to Kosovo annually for کروڑ 15 million (1.5 1.58 million). The move is aimed at easing pressure on Danish prisons.

“The agreement will improve the capacity of our densely populated prisons and reduce the current pressure on prison guards,” Danish Justice Minister Nick Haikrob said in a statement.

Under the agreement, the first detainees will be held in Gilan prison, 50 km from the Kosovo capital Brestina, in early 2023.

In 2020, about 350 foreign prisoners were to be deported after serving their sentences in Danish prisons.

Since 2015, the number of inmates in Danish prisons has increased by 19%. Thus, at the beginning of 2021, this number reached more than 4000 people.

During the same period, the number of prison guards in Denmark, a country with a population of 5.8 million, decreased by 18%.
