When the children asked Shoaib Akhtar taking Afridi’s autograph, 23 years old is a funny story

Veteran Pakistan bowler Shoaib Malik has narrated a special anecdote related to former Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar. This story is from when the Pakistan team came to India in 1999 to play the Asian Test Championship. Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi and Azhar Mahmood had left the hotel for dinner just two days before the test match was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Shoaib Malik says: ‘Shoaib Bhai, Shahid Bhai went out to eat something. Some children came. He took autographs from Lala (Shahid Afridi). He took autographs from Azhar bhai too. Then he asked Shoaib bhai, what is your name? Two days later there was a test match. He then he said that after two days you will take only my name. Then, on game day, he took out Sachin on the first ball.

Shoaib Malik narrated this anecdote in praise of Shoaib Akhtar. He recounted how Shoaib was confident and his bowling was decisive. Shoaib Malik narrated this anecdote in ‘A-Sports’ in front of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq. This entire panel discussed the performance of Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022.

In this test, Pakistan won by 46 runs. Shoaib Akhtar dropped Sachin Tendulkar on the first ball. He pushed India off his back foot by taking two wickets on two consecutive balls. Shoaib Akhtar took 8 wickets in this test.
