Filmmaker Mukesh Modi's upcoming film 'Political War' has been embroiled in controversy even before its release. Actually, the film is waiting to get the certificate from CBFC. The director of this film recently came into limelight when he requested the Prime Minister to issue a certificate to his film because the Indian Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had stopped his certificate due to which the film's theatrical release was not possible. .
The director reportedly waited for three months for certification but hit a hurdle when the revision committee rejected the film's application on December 22, 2023.
Initially, the title of the film was retained as '2024 Election War' but after CBFC's objections, Mukesh Modi changed the name of the film to 'Political War'. Although the film was submitted to the revision committee, the application was rejected without giving a reason for screening. The CBFC had raised concerns that the faces of the film's actors “resembled Indian politicians”.
Mukesh Modi, upset over the film's failure to release in theatres, has now appealed to the Prime Minister to shed light on the challenges faced by filmmakers and termed the response of CBFC officials as “unsatisfactory”. Mukesh Modi also appealed to the Prime Minister to improve the system by appointing “competent people” and prevent unnecessary delays and financial burden on filmmakers.
He stressed that the purpose of the “political war” is to motivate the youth and also appealed to the government to pay attention to this matter. Mukesh Modi further said that unlike his film, the board has no problem approving “violent films”, he says his film conveys a positive message.
Concerned over not getting the certificate from CBFC, the director has announced that his film 'Political War' will be released in foreign theaters on February 16 and will subsequently be streamed on OTT platforms. The filmmaker said that there is no censor board in Hollywood and in the same vein suggested that the censor board should be abolished in Bollywood too.
