WhatsApp will allow you to better manage your backups, but there is a catch

WhatsApp is constantly on the lookout for new ideas to make its application more complete. Several features are currently being tested, such as the written transcription of voice messages or the arrival of cashback in conversations. These next new features are sure to delight users. Others, on the other hand, are the sign ofa change that we would have gone well.

In its latest beta, WhatsApp allows you to manage the size of the data backup. Concretely, it is possible to choose which media will be stored during the next backup, excluding those we no longer need. On the surface, then, this is a good thing. This will give the possibility of reducing the size of the files which are then stored on Google Drive. This is exactly what WhatsApp wants, and for a very specific reason.

Google Drive will shake up the way WhatsApp backups work

Indeed, this new feature surely does not come out of nowhere. For the time being, Google Drive does not count the storage space used by WhatsApp backups in its total quota. Thanks to this partnership between the application and the service, users do not have to worry about the amount of data transferred. Only then, the terms of this contract could soon change.

According to several sources, Google is preparing to review its strategy, by offering only 2000MB of WhatsApp storage per user. The firm has not yet announced any such thing, these are just rumors to be taken with a grain of salt. But the arrival of this new feature in the application seems to confirm the information. It is not yet known when the latter will be deployed, but being already in the current beta, she shouldn’t be long in arriving.
