WhatsApp Upgrades Video Calls: Future Features Revealed

Whatsapp ändert Nutzungsbedingungen und Dateschutzrichtlinien

A new beta version of WhatsApp, with the version number 2.24.13.14, has been released, adding augmented reality (AR) functions to the messenger. According to WABetaInfo, this update includes call effects and filters that will be available to all users in a future update.

The AR features added in this version include dynamic face filters, such as a “touch-up tool” to smooth skin tone and a “low-light mode” to improve visibility in dark environments. The messenger is also planning to introduce a tool to edit the background in calls, which could be useful for group conferences to hide distractions and surroundings.

In addition, WhatsApp is planning to introduce more effects to make video calls more visually appealing and entertaining. One feature being considered is the option to use an avatar instead of a real-time video image, similar to Apple’s Facetime. This could have several advantages, including the playful aspect of avatars and the ability to preserve one’s anonymity.

It is unclear when the AR effects, including call effects and filters, will be updated to the main version of the messenger, but past beta versions have shown that this usually happens relatively quickly.
