Whatsapp is developing a new feature that will help you better protect your privacy in Messenger. Because as WABetainfo found out, the popular messenger is getting a new protection function that makes life more difficult for privacy snoopers. WABetainfo is a news portal that specializes in finding upcoming new features in Whatsapp.
Screenshot lock for profile pictures
The new privacy protection feature is a screenshot lock for profile pictures. If this new screenshot lock is activated and a stranger wants to take a screenshot of a profile picture, the screen remains black and Whatsapp displays this message: “Cannot take a screenshot due to restrictions in the app”.
So far, you can take screenshots of the profile photos of your WhatsApp contacts at any time. Criminals can misuse such screenshot recordings in many ways: for fraud or for (sexual) harassment. This would end after the introduction of the new protective function.
Whatsapp took a first step in this direction around five years ago. At that time, the messenger service prevented anyone from downloading profile pictures. Since then, the only option has been to create screenshots of the profile pictures.
But be careful: Even if Whatsapp unlocks the screenshot lock at some point, you should not use any photos as profile pictures that you do not want to be distributed. Of course, one option will always remain: taking photos of the profile pictures with another cell phone.
As of today, only some users of the beta version 2.24.4.25 of Whatsapp for Android can try out the new screenshot lock. Because Whatsapp has not yet activated this innovation for all beta testers; However, more and more beta testers should be able to try out the innovation in the next few weeks. It is still completely unknown when Whatsapp will activate the new screenshot lock for profile pictures for all Whatsapp users.
