Shubman Gill's 'flop show' continues in Test cricket. In the first Test, played against England in Hyderabad, Gill was eliminated after scoring just 23 runs. Previously, Gill had also flopped in Tests during the South Africa tour. But what mistake does Gill keep making? Anil Kumble answered this question. He told what mistake Gill is making and how he should improve it.
Gill lost his wicket on the second day of the ongoing Test in Hyderabad. Team India is playing the first innings and seems to be in a good rhythm. For the team, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, batting at number four, played brilliant innings but in the meantime Gill flopped.
Anil Kumble gave Gill the examples of former legendary batsman and current boss Rahul Dravid and current Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and told Gill how he can improve his shortcomings.
While speaking on Sports 18, Kamble said: “The pressure on him increased and he couldn't turn the shot. He has to learn that. If he wants to bat at number three, especially on Indian pitches where spinners cause problems, they need to rotate the attack there.”
He further added, “Even when he came out to bat yesterday, he took his time because you don’t want to lose wickets. Even today he got stuck. Wanted to play release shots against spin, which I don’t think is the ideal shot.”
Kumble further cited the example of Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara and said, “If they want to finish at number three like Pujara and Dravid, they have to rotate the strike. They need to play spin with light hands and use their wrists. “That's something he needs to add to his game.”
