Indian ghazal singer Pankaj Udas passed away yesterday. He breathed his last at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai at the age of 72. His death cast a shadow of sadness across the entertainment world. The subcontinent’s legendary artist Runa Laila has expressed sadness over his death.
He told the media, “Pankaj Udas, the singer of many popular songs.” An artiste with an unforgettable voice. There are so many talented ghazal singers left that we have suffered a huge loss.
Runa Laila recalls: “There are very few such stars in the music industry.” Once this talented artist came to Dhaka. The occasion of his visit to Dhaka was an event at the house of the Indian High Commissioner. I was called. On the other end of the phone it was said that Pankaj Udas wanted to meet me.
In the words of this legendary artist, “Pankaj Udas was humble, modest.” He always spoke with a smile. I’ve never seen him with a sad face. I still remember that day.
Pankaj Udas is a name in the world of music with a chapter associated with it. He has taken the ghazal to another height. This chapter ended with his death. Our musical geniuses are leaving one by one. Pankaj Udas also left. May the Creator keep him in peace in the afterlife – I ask for this prayer.”
