Washington: The US State Department says there are still many foreign troops and civilians in Afghanistan, and a decision on extending the withdrawal after August 31 will be made today.
According to the Foreign Office, talks are underway on the withdrawal of US citizens and allies from the Taliban, while also consulting with allies. The steps taken by the new government are unacceptable.
US media reports say military officials have advised the White House to make a decision on the evacuation today. There are currently 5,800 NATO troops in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the Pentagon said that 42,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan since July, and 37,000 people have been evacuated from Kabul since August 14.
Contacts begin with the Afghan Taliban to extend the evacuation deadline
The Pentagon says it is evacuating people on commercial flights and charter flights, including thousands of Afghans, and is focusing on completing the evacuation before August 31.
