Western alternates for Utah’s 2023 All-Star Game

The NBA announced this morning from Thursday to Friday the 14 substitutes for the 2023 All-Star Game at both conferences. The All-Star Match will be held next February 19th in it vivin sand of Utah. As a novel format, lebron and Gianniswho will be the captains, will choose their teammates minutes before the duel begins.

Western Conference alternates

Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies)

Base. 23 years. Stats 2022-23: 27.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8 assists. Twice all star. The level of the point guards in the West has left out of the starting five a Morant who matures and develops his game with each passing game. Total leader of some Grizzlies that once again establish themselves as one of the best teams in the competition, the former player from Murray State University is improving in those facets that separated him from being a superstar in the league: better game without the ball, involving his companions. The influence is spectacular. He doesn’t care who’s in front. His ability to rise above a defender and score on contact is hard to find in all of league history. But it is something more than that, his game is not based only on it. His shot after dribble and pitch selection is getting better every day.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder)

Base. 24 years. Stats 2022-23: 30.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists. Once all star. Shai has established himself as one of the rising stars of the competition. The Thunder leader doesn’t want to wait. His explosion has been a breath of fresh air in a franchise that needed it. He has no equal in one against one, a thousand resources to score from three ranges and his speed allows him to leave the defender behind with a simple dribble. Without him, the success of the Thunder cannot be understood who, despite Holmgren’s loss, want to burn stages in the rebuilding process. The Canadian point guard is the fifth highest scorer in the competition, behind only Embiid, Doncic, Giannis and Tatum. He is on pace to become the third player in franchise history to exceed thirty points per game (Durant’s 32, Westbrook’s 31.6). The facts speak for themselves and he has been rewarded.

Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento Kings)

center 26 years. Stats 2022-23: 18.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 7.3 assists. Three times all star. For many, the great absentee of the starting five of the West. Consistency defines the Lithuanian. His arrival has changed the road map of a franchise that has not reached the postseason in 15 years. He has brought light to some Kings who have tried different options and have never hit the nail on the head. His ability to score and assist in the post make him one of the most difficult players to defend in the competition. The duo formed with Fox has brought excitement to a city of Sacramento that was initially hesitant about the transfer that sent Haliburton to Indiana and the former Unicaja man to the California capital.

Lauri Markkanen (Utah Jazz)

Power forward. 25 years. Stats 2022-23: 24.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists. Once all star. The top candidate to win the Most Improved Player of the Year award. The good feelings shown in the past Eurobasket were not a mirage. The arrival of the Finn to a team that completely changed course with the transfer of Gobert and Mitchell has meant a breath of fresh air in the new reconstruction project that Ainge is designing. Utah’s leader in his own right, largely to blame for the Salt Lake City’s good start to the season, he has finally found his place in the NBA after irregular and disappointing spells in Chicago and Cleveland. He will be the representative of Utah in the All-Star that is organized in the city. The turning point of his career could not have come at a better time.

Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers)

Base. 32 years. Stats 2022-23: 30.1 points, 4 rebounds, 7.4 assists. Seven times all star. Despite the fact that the Blazers have gone from better to worse, Lillard has always been at the level. One of the best scorers in the league since he arrived in the NBA, he has gradually recovered the version he accustomed us to before the injury. Two games with more than 50 points and throwing the team on his back when he needed it. The point guard is a classic in the all-star game and this season was no different. One of the best players in the world, capable of winning games on his own and on his way to joining the list of the top five three-pointers in history.

Paul George (Los Angeles Clippers)

Eaves. 32 years. Stats 2022-23: 23.5 points, 6 rebounds, 5.3 assists. Eight times all star. The more regular of the two Clippers stars. Paul George has learned to carry the equipment on his back when Kawhi is not on the track. Something more than a second sword. He has accustomed us to spectacular performances that do not diminish over the years. He not only has influence in attack, but his application in defense ignites a group that needs cohesion to fight for everything. George has been the leader and beacon for Angelenos.

Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies)

center 23 years. Statistics 2022-23: 16.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.3 blocks. Once all star. One of the great surprises for this Game of Stars. The Memphis Grizzlies center sneaks in above names like Anthony Davis or Anthony Edwards. Jackson is an elite defender, a candidate for that award at the end of a current season that he is being dreamy with those Grizzlies so magnetic that they occupy the second position in the West. Along with Desmond Bane and Ja Morant, he is the great reference of the team.
