The Winter Games are officially launched in Beijing, a few months after the Tokyo Games, what can we expect from this edition?
Once again, you’ll have to set your alarm clock, if you don’t want to miss anything of the event. When it will be 2 a.m. in France, it will be 9 a.m. in Beijing, and many athletes will already be on the slopes.
For the 24th edition of the Winter Games, there are no new sports on the programme, but seven new events have been added (in bobsleigh, short-track, freestyle skiing, ski jumping and snowboarding ). Including mixed team events.
In total, 109 Olympic titles will be distributed and our 88 French athletes hope to win a few. Objective: to do better than their 2018 record and its 15 medals.
This name means “Together we are one”. The dThe design of the medals is inspired by ancient Chinese jade pendants, and the five concentric circles echo the Olympic spirit.
A sportswoman hopes to win a lot, and will be to follow during this edition. Eileen Gu, 18-year-old Chinese star born in the United States, already has a remarkable career. Admitted to the prestigious Stanford University, muse of major brands in modeling, she could win, at home, three gold medals in three different disciplines: slopestyle, big air and halfpipe.
Having had the chance to participate in the Summer Games, we are also looking forward to being able to follow these Winter Games, because these are still sports that we never see in our Parisian training center.
Even if our seasons are completely reversed, we know some athletes met during the gathering of French teams. It is necessarily interesting to understand how they train. This gives ideas, on the routine of preparation, of concentration. Seeing a skier visualize his descent a few minutes before entering the competition is very inspiring.
Watching the Games without pressure, from your sofa, as a great supporter of the French teams, is also very pleasant, and a little less stressful. Hoping, after the Games of Grenoble in 1968 or Alberville in 1992, to be able to welcome them on our territory soon.
