Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 Ending Explained: Character Fates, Deaths, Tyler

Well, if you thought Nevermore Academy was done with its dark surprises, think again! The first part of Wednesday Season 2 just wrapped up, leaving fans with a whole lot of questions and a truly chilling cliffhanger. This Netflix hit, which debuted in November 2022 and stars Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams, has always been about solving mysteries. But the stakes got a whole lot higher in the first half of the new season, which dropped on Wednesday, August 6. Wednesday herself found her fate hanging in the balance, and a dangerous new threat was unleashed across the school grounds.

If you haven’t caught up, a heads-up: major spoilers ahead!

The final moments of Part 1 saw Wednesday violently thrown from a Willow Hill window. Her ex-boyfriend, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), in his monstrous Hyde form, seemed to be the one responsible. After the attack, Tyler didn’t stick around. He vanished into the woods, joined by several other patients who had escaped from the psychiatric hospital. On top of that, this season’s mysterious killer, who had already claimed two lives in just two days, still hasn’t been unmasked. So, who’s still standing, and what fresh horrors await our favorite morbid teen?

Good news for fans of the macabre! There’s plenty more Wednesday coming your way. The popular series has already been given the green light for a third season. Netflix content director Bela Bajaria and showrunner Alfred Gough confirmed the show’s future back in July. They even spilled a little secret: a Wednesday spin-off is also in the works. Gough hinted that they’re "definitely looking at it," adding that "there are more characters we could explore." Bajaria chimed in, saying there’s "plenty to dig into within the Addams Family."

Now, let’s break down where everyone stands after the nail-biting conclusion of Wednesday Season 2, Part 1, now streaming on Netflix.

Wednesday Addams

Some things changed in Season 2, but Wednesday Addams largely did not. The first part of the second season showed Wednesday adjusting to life in the spotlight, as everyone at Nevermore considered her a hero. But Wednesday was more focused on finding out who her stalker was (a younger schoolmate), who killed Tyler’s father and his ex-partner (it’s unclear), and what was happening at Willow Hill (Judi had a secret prison and testing lab for outcasts). The end of Part 1 saw Wednesday attempting to help other outcasts escape. That’s when she came face-to-face with Tyler in his Hyde form. Viewers didn’t get to see what happened next, only witnessing Wednesday being thrown from the window. Her fate was left uncertain, leaving us all guessing.

After finally embracing her inner wolf, Enid (Emma Myers) returned to Nevermore a changed person. This new confidence brought doubts about her relationship with Ajax (Georgie Farmer), whom she mostly dodged until he finally got the hint. Instead, Enid found herself getting closer to the new student, Bruno. This shift even made her question her friendship with Wednesday. She had no idea her friend was trying to shield her from a grim premonition of death.

For most of Part 1, Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was locked up at Willow Hill. Both Wednesday and, later, Laurel (Christina Ricci) paid him visits. Despite attempts to weaken Tyler’s connection to Laurel, his Hyde powers were more destructive than ever. By the end of Part 1, Tyler managed to break free. His first act? Attacking his teacher. He then came face to face with Wednesday in his Hyde form. Viewers then saw Wednesday flying out a window, while Tyler vanished into the forest.

Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) faced a tough balancing act this season. She had to protect her mother while also doing what the new principal, Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi), asked of her. This even involved Dort using Bianca’s siren powers to manipulate Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to bring back Bianca’s estranged mother. It was a complicated mess for the powerful student.

Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci) was brought to Willow Hill as a prisoner during the first part of Season 2. She had previously been held in a different facility, all to keep her separated from Tyler. Their first reunion didn’t go well; the Hyde nearly killed Laurel. Despite this, she later tried to help him after the outcasts escaped Willow Hill. Her efforts didn’t pay off, though. The Hyde ultimately pursued her and seemingly killed her for good this time.

In Season 2, Wednesday’s parents had a bigger role, as they moved closer to Nevermore — Laurel’s old residence, to be exact — while Morticia helped out at the academy. This season, Wednesday’s parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams, stepped into a bigger role. They even moved closer to Nevermore, setting up shop in Laurel’s old house. Morticia even lent a hand at the academy. She had no clue that the new Nevermore principal, Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi), was secretly using Bianca’s siren abilities. His goal? To manipulate Bianca into bringing her estranged mother back.

Pugsley Addams

Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley Addams, had a smaller role in Season 1. But in Season 2, he joined her at Nevermore. He really struggled to settle in, especially when it came to making friends. Finding and adopting a zombie certainly didn’t help his popularity. Before Part 1 even ended, that creature broke loose and devoured several brains along the way.
