Weather forecast: 7 departments under orange watch, storms and heat waves

The weather will be hot and stormy. Météo France placed 7 departments on orange watch for storms and heat waves this Thursday, August 12. This alert affects a large part of southeastern France.

At 10 p.m., the departments still affected by the alert are: Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Ardèche, LaDrôme (storms and heat wave), Jura, Saône-et-Loire (storms), Alpes-Maritimes and Var ( heat wave) .

In addition, about thirty departments are placed under yellow surveillance, that is, a large part of the southeast and part of Occitania mainly, the minimums will also be high, in the order of 17 to 22 degrees.

At the end of the day, storms accompanied by strong winds caused damage, power outages and transport incidents in Auvergne-Rhône-Alps, without however causing any casualties.

At 8:00 p.m., 50,000 customers were still without electricity, 15,000 on the Loire, 20,000 on the Rhone and 15,000 on the Ain.

In these same departments, as well as in the Saône-et-Loire, thunderstorms and wind caused trees to fall, disrupting train traffic. Five lines were particularly affected: Saint-Etienne / Roanne, Saint-Etienne / Boën-sur-Lignon, Roanne / Lyon, Lyon / Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon / Mâcon, SNCF said.

At the end of the afternoon, the SNCF specified that “train traffic will only gradually resume during the day on Friday on the Lyon / Bourg-en-Bresse, Saint-Etienne / Roanne and Roanne Saint-Germain-des-Ditches lines” .

Météo-France plans a “break in the second part of the night from Thursday to Friday.”
