After losing the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-3, Australia started the Test series strong. In the first Test of the series, the Kangaroo team had gone 98 from three in 25 overs to the stumps on day one. Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith were cheaply returned to the pavilion, while Usman Khawaja 47 and Travis Head were in the crease for six runs.
