Ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 16, Punjab Kings have made a huge change in their squad. Punjab have made Wasim Jaffer their hitting coach again. Jaffer stepped down as Punjab’s batting coach job ahead of last season’s auction. However, he is now back on the team again.
Punjab appointed Jaffer their first hitting coach in 2019 and Jaffer played his role well for three seasons. Following this, Jaffer stepped down from his position before the 2022 season auction and was not associated with the IPL in the 2022 season. Jaffer has also been working with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and has been coaching young Bangladeshi players.
Punjab has released many players ahead of the upcoming season including former team captain Mayank Agarwal. When the franchise announced Shikhar Dhawan as its new captain, only the casting of Mayank was all but decided. Odion Smith, who was bought at a huge price last season, has also been released.
Punjab will have Rs 32.2 crore in the auction and with the help of this they will try to complete their team by bringing in good players. More money than Punjab will stay only with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Punjab has retained foreign stars like Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone and Johnny Bairstow in its squad.
