The Golden State Warriors have made a significant move in response to recent transfers in the league, including Luka Doncic joining the Los Angeles Lakers and De’aaron Fox joining the San Antonio Spurs, creating a new ‘Big 3’ for Stephen Curry. After negotiations with the Phoenix Suns to bring back Kevin Durant, the Warriors have closed a deal to transfer Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a first-round pick in the 2025 draft.
To join the Warriors, Jimmy Butler will decline his option for a $52 million contract next season and instead sign a two-year contract worth $111 million until 2027. This move comes after Warriors management was urged by Steve Kerr and Curry not to make any “desperate” transfers that could jeopardize the future of the franchise.
As part of the same operation, Dennis Schroder, who joined the Warriors in December, will be transferred to the Utah Jazz. This will be Schroder’s sixth transfer in his 12-year career, and it comes after he recently denounced the NBA as “modern slavery.”
The Utah Jazz will send PJ Tucker to the Miami Heat, while Lindy Waters III will be transferred from the Golden State Warriors to the Detroit Pistons, and Josh Richardson will leave the Heat to play for the Pistons. The transfer was finalized while the Heat played against the Philadelphia 76ers and the Pistons received the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr convened a team meeting to inform the players about the transfer before they played against the Jazz in Salt Lake City. Andrew Wiggins, also known as ‘The Messiah,’ was warming up for the game when he was informed about the transfer.
