It is undoubtedly one of the most popular fantasy worlds ever. The fictional universe of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ originally created by JRR Tolkien has captured the hearts of many film enthusiasts. Warner Bros now seems to be planning to bring this world in which the Lord of the Rings is set to life in the metaverse.
Lord of the Rings NFTs
Warner Bros Home Entertainment, the production company behind the hit fantasy film series, is releasing a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) which has everything to do with the original Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”. The interactive experience is currently available as a preview and will be on sale October 21.
For this, Warner Bros. is collaborating with Eluvio. The launch will consist of two NFT levels of rarity. The “Premiere Mystery Edition” with 10,000 collectibles for $30 each and the “Premier Epic Edition” with 999 collectibles for $100 each. Each NFT allows collectors to watch an expanded version of the film, access special features and augmented reality (AR) discover collectibles.
Warner Bros Movieverse
This is Warner Bros’ first step to create a true movieverse to make. The company plans to bring feature films and series to the blockchain and the metaverse on a large scale.
An executive at Warner Bros, Jessica Schell, had this to say about the new move against CoinDesk:
“This initiative has important implications as a potential new way to control the distribution of films directly to fans; engage those fans through communities and tradable marketplaces; and demonstrate the practicality of Web3 and NFTs.”
According to the CEO of Eluvio, the goal of the Movieverse is also to be able to appeal to as many people as possible. The initiative’s target audience is not just seasoned NFT traders or people who have been familiar with the metaverse for much longer. Even people who actually know nothing about this should be attracted. A Lord of the Rings metaverse is of course an excellent first step.
