Ward and Ohtani lead Angels despite two Ramirez home runs

Taylor Ward hit a grand slam and came within a single of the cycle, Shohei Ohtani showed his prowess on the mound and the plate and a streaking Los Angeles Angels swept the Cleveland Guardians 9-5 on Wednesday to add his fourth consecutive win.

Mike Trout hit a pair of RBI doubles and extended his hitting streak to 10 games for the Angels, who on Thursday could get their first four-game sweep of Cleveland in The Big A since 1982.

The Guardians conceded their sixth straight loss despite two home runs by José Ramírez. The star Dominican third baseman knocked it out of the park in the first inning and repeated in the eighth.

Ward’s grand slam off Zach Plesac (1-2), who took the loss, in the second inning was the third of his career and gave the Angels a comfortable 6-2 lead.

Ohtani (2-2) won his second straight start, going five innings in which he gave up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. At bat he signed a 5-3 performance with one run and one RBI.

For the Guardians, the Dominicans Amed Rosario 5-1, with two runs scored; José Ramírez 4-2, with two runs scored and four RBIs; Francisco Reyes 4-0. The Colombian Óscar Mercado 1-1. The Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 4-2.
