War in Ukraine: Russian army says kyiv bombed prison and killed 40 Ukrainian POWs

Did Ukraine kill 40 of its soldiers, prisoners of pro-Russian separatists, in a bombardment? This is what the Russian Ministry of Defense asserts in a press release, Friday, July 29, without providing proof.

According to Moscow, shots from a Himars artillery system, supplied to Ukraine by the United States, hit a prison in Olenivka, in the Donetsk region, also injuring 75 people.

No Ukrainian reaction yet

Russia claims to see this as a deliberate act by Ukraine: “This outrageous provocation is intended to scare Ukrainian soldiers and deter them from surrendering.” According to her, members of the Azov regiment detained since the fall of Mariupol are among the detainees.

This announcement from Russia could not be verified by an independent source late Friday morning, and Ukraine did not react. Russian public television broadcast images presented as those of the charred barracks, without showing any bodies.

According to the governor of the Mykolaiv region, a Russian strike on a bus stop killed five people and injured seven on Friday in this southern city of the country near the occupied Kherson region.
