War in Ukraine: kyiv evokes a “critical situation” after the Russian strikes, with “30% of power plants destroyed”

The situation is “critical” in Ukraine. This was declared on Tuesday, October 18 by a presidential official, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, on television, after several Russian strikes, for more than a week, on power plants, confirmed by Moscow on Tuesday.

These attacks cause major power outages as winter approaches. “Our regions are dependent on each other”clarified Kyrylo Tymoshenkojudging “necessary for the whole country to prepare for the possibility of power, water and heating failures”.

“Major” blackouts across the country

For his part, the Ukrainian President, Volodymy Zelensky, announced on Twitter tuesday that “30% of Ukrainian power plants have been destroyed” since the Russian strikes of October 10. The situation generates “significant outages across the country”.

New attacks hit electrical installations on Tuesday, particularly in kyiv. Earlier in the day, theoperator DTEK has reported “interrupts” in the supply of electricity and water for the inhabitants of part of the capital. “Engineers are making every effort to restore supply”he said on Facebook.
