War in Ukraine: Joe Biden reactivates a military assistance law dating from the Second World War

A device dating from Roosevelt was reactivated. LUS President Joe Biden signed a law on Monday (May 9) to speed up the shipment of military equipment to Ukraine. “Ukrainians are fighting for their lives every day”he told reporters in the Oval Office. “This fight is expensive, but giving in to aggression would be even more expensive.”

The Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act is based on a World War II program to help Europe resist Hitler. The US executive also reports that the law was enacted as Russia marks Monday the anniversary of its victory over Nazi Germany.

A law hailed by Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky saw in this signature a “historic milestone”. “I am convinced that we will win again together. And we will defend democracy in Ukraine. And in Europe. Like 77 years ago”he wrote on Twitter.

The text “was supported by nearly every member of Congress” American, with the exception of 10 elected House of Representatives who voted against, noted the White House.
