War in Ukraine: Jean-Yves Le Drian calls for continued dialogue with Vladimir Putin

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called on Sunday March 27 to continue the dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin until he realizes the “price to pay” for his invasion of Ukraine and that he wants to negotiate.

On Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron warned of a “escalation of words and actions in Ukraine”after the remarks of his American counterpart Joe Biden qualifying the Russian president as “Butcher”. “We have to keep talking with the Russians, we have to keep talking with President Putin.”hammered Jean-Yves Le Drian during the Doha Forum.

“You have to be in the demand for dialogue, in its clarity, without any naivety, with a lot of firmness, but continue to talk to him so that at some point he considers that the price to pay for his intervention in Ukraine is so high that it is better to negotiate”, insisted Jean-Yves Le Drian. According to him, Emmanuel Macron “keep talking with President Putin to get the terms of a ceasefire first and then a negotiation”.
