War in Ukraine: Germany says it is ready to welcome deserters from the Russian army

“Anyone who courageously opposes Putin and thus puts himself in great danger can apply for political asylum in Germany.” German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said Thursday, September 22, in an interview with the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, that the country was ready to welcome deserters from the Russian army, considering that they are “threatened with serious repression”after Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the partial mobilization of Russian reservists.

Same story from the side of German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann, who said in a tweet on Wednesday that Russians fleeing their country were “welcome”, noting under the hashtag “partial mobilization” noting that apparently “many Russians were leaving their country”.

However, obtaining political asylum is not automatic. These are individual decisions which are accompanied by a security check, recalled the Minister of the Interior.
