Wallapop Launches “Heartfelt Greetings” Campaign with Anne Igartiburu to Promote Online Kindness

Wallapop’s latest survey reveals that 94% of Spaniards are polite when starting conversations on the second-hand platform. They greet others and make requests courteously. However, the company has noticed that some users don’t always follow through on their interactions. Some say “hello” and then disappear, while others don’t greet others at all. In fact, 30% of Spaniards have admitted to leaving a chat unanswered at some point.

These digital interactions can be direct and lack the nuances of in-person conversations. This can make it harder to achieve Wallapop’s goal of giving unwanted items a second life. To address this issue, Wallapop has launched a campaign to encourage its community of over 19 million users to be kinder and more courteous to each other. The goal is to help users complete transactions successfully.

Wallapop’s “Saludos de Corazón” Campaign

The campaign, titled “Saludos de Corazón,” features Anne Igartiburu, a well-known TV presenter. The initiative aims to inspire users to greet each other warmly and maintain a friendly attitude in their interactions. This, in turn, can help overcome the digital barrier and lead to more successful transactions.

With over 100 million new ads uploaded to the platform every year and 16 million chats opened monthly in Spain alone, Wallapop’s community is substantial. Fostering polite and friendly interactions among users is crucial to ensuring a pleasant experience and promoting a circular economy through successful transactions.

The campaign encourages users to be more considerate in their online interactions. For those who prefer to minimize their online conversations, Wallapop offers an alternative: a direct purchase option using “Buy” or “Make an offer” buttons, similar to standard e-commerce platforms.

Anne Igartiburu, the campaign’s protagonist, says, “I felt inspired and connected to Wallapop’s purpose of motivating people to be kinder and foster a positive environment on the platform. I’ve learned that connecting with others can be challenging when there’s a screen in between, but a simple greeting can make a big difference.”

Marta Gui, Wallapop’s Head of Virality and Partnerships, adds, “We want to encourage friendlier conversations among our users because we believe that a kind greeting and a respectful response are not just polite gestures, but also help our community extend the life of unwanted items.”

A Continued Effort to Unite the Community

This campaign is part of Wallapop’s ongoing effort to create a more respectful and responsible online community. Last December, the platform partnered with the iconic musical duo Camela to recreate user conversations on Wallapop, addressing topics like ghosting, bartering, and lowball offers. Now, with Anne Igartiburu on board, Wallapop aims to promote respectful interactions and create a more positive environment for its users.
