Voting for the mid-term elections in the United States is happening today (Tuesday).
All 435 seats of the House of Representatives are being provoted while one-third of the Senate is being elected on 35 seats, four crore votes have already been cast.
In six states Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nevada, the competition between the ruling party Democrats and the opposition Republicans is tight. Thirty-six governors are also going to be elected in this election.
This election is very important for both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. President Biden has to maintain his power in both chambers, while the possibility of a presidential re-election may arise for Trump.
The results of the mid-term elections will determine whether President Biden will be able to continue to implement his agenda for the remainder of his term.
Democrats have 220 representatives in the House of Representatives, while the number of Republicans is 212. Similarly, in the 100 seats of the Senate, the Democratic Party has 48 members and they also have the support of two independent members.
Republicans hold half of the remaining seats in the Senate. However, the Senate is chaired by the Vice President of the United States, who is a Democrat, Kamala Harris. They can play a decisive role by casting their vote in case of a tie in voting on a matter.
