Volodymyr Zelensky presents a medal to an explosive detection dog

Volodymyr Zelensky turned a bomb detection dog into a war hero. This Sunday, the President of Ukraine presented a Medal of Honor to Patron, a 2-year-old Jack Russel member of a Chernihiv mine clearance team, reports TF1 News. His master was also decorated.

The animal has a flair for detecting explosives and it already has a good track record. According to his master, the specialized dog has already found 200 explosive devices deposited by Russian soldiers since the start of the conflict in February. The Ukrainian president thus described the national hero as “small, but very famous sapper”.

Justin Trudeau as guest

Volodymyr Zelensky was not the only head of state, since at his side was Justin Trudeau. The Prime Minister of Canada was making a surprise visit. Right after receiving his medal, the dog barked and wagged his tail. It was then that Justin Trudeau pretended to pat his pants in search of a sugar cube. Enough to provoke laughter in the audience.

“Boss was extremely happy to meet a new friend from Ukraine. Even though Mr. Trudeau didn’t have Patron’s favorite piece of cheese on him,” the Emergencies Ministry posted on Facebook.
