Vogelbach homered as Pirates beat Dodgers for first series in five years

Daniel Vogelbach hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates won a series from the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time in nearly five years, beating them 5-3 on Wednesday.

Vogelbach lined the right-field seats off Daniel Hudson (1-2), putting the lead back in Pittsburgh after blowing a three-run lead in the top of the inning.

Jack Suwinski hit his second home run in three days for the Pirates. Josh VanMeter also homered off reliever Rommy Kahnle in the sixth inning, but he made an error in the seventh that set off a Dodgers attack, capped by a double by Edwin Rios, who emptied the bases off Chris Stratton.

Wil Crowe (2-2) came on for Stanton and issued a pair of walks that filled the bases. However, he came out unscathed.

David Bednar pitched two innings to perfection for his fifth save.

For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Ríos 4-1 with three RBIs.

For the Pirates, Venezuelan Diego Castillo 3-0 with a run scored.
