Vodafone Portugal duplicates data on the network before the pre-pandemic

Vodafone Portugal has published the most recent data on data traffic on its network. And the good news is that it increased 102% this summer (July and August), compared to the same period before the pandemic in 2019.

“This doubling reflects the consumption profile of users, the increased use of mobile devices in leisure time and vacations, as well as the return to major events that were interrupted during the public health crisis,” it can be read in a statement. from Vodafone.

The increase in traffic in July and August was also significant compared to the summer of 2021. The figures rise to 35%, and the use of applications such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok contributed to this.

The recovery of tourist demand in the country contributed greatly to this. It was recorded that the data traffic generated by visitors (so-called roaming-in) grew by 100% this summer compared to 2019. The number of roaming users increased by 34%.

Algarve, Costa Vicentina and Minho register the highest seasonal increase in data

The regions of Algarve, Costa Vicentina and Minho were the ones with the highest seasonal increase in data. The highest volume of mobile data was recorded in the Algarve region.

It should be noted that the traffic associated with the new generation 5G connected devices represented 5% of the total data processed in the entire Vodafone network. This reached 11% in areas that are already fully covered by 5G.

This increase is even more expressive in areas with summer festivals, such as Rock in Rio and Vodafone Paredes de Coura. In these, 5G accounted for around 30% of total mobile data traffic.
