Even after the transfer window closed weeks ago, Vizela just pulled a rabbit out of the hat. This Monday, the club officially announced a new face for coach Ricardo Sousa’s squad. Yann Kitala, a 27-year-old forward, joins the ranks. He was a free agent and has signed a deal until 2027, with an option for another season.
Kitala, who is French-Congolese, brings a clear vision. He spoke about his reasons for choosing Vizela, mentioning talks with the coach, sporting director, and president. “They showed strong interest in me,” he explained. “I was also very keen to play for a club like Vizela.” His ambitions are already set for his time in the Minho region.
His main goal is straightforward: “My aim is to help Vizela reach the first division.” He plans to achieve this by “scoring goals and sharing my experience from the French and Dutch leagues.” Kitala noted his history of playing for top teams in France. He even won the 2nd League title twice there. “I hope to add that winning experience to Vizela,” he stated, reminding us he was once a teammate of Thio at Sochaux.
Kitala is eager to get started. “I can’t wait to play in this jersey and for this club,” he stressed. He hopes to “reach the goal of promotion to the 1st division and celebrate with the fans.” He promised to “work hard every single day” for this dream. He then described his playing style: “I’m a fast player who likes to run into space.” He also “knows how to hold the ball well.” He added, “I never back down from a challenge. I’m strong when pressing and always ready to help the team.”
Kitala came up through the Lyon academy, even playing for their B team. His career has taken him through various clubs like Lorient, Sochaux, and Le Havre in France. He also spent one season in Holland with Almere City. Notably, he didn’t play any official matches last season, making this move a fresh start.
