vivo Y500 Pro Confirmed with 200MP Samsung HP5 Camera – Launching Soon

Good news for phone lovers: powerful cameras are making their way to more affordable devices. Vivo is leading this charge, ready to introduce a new phone with a super high-resolution camera. This move shows that top-tier photo features are no longer just for expensive flagship models.

Han Boxiao, a product manager at vivo, recently shared some exciting details on Weibo, a popular social media platform in China. He confirmed that the vivo Y500 Pro is launching soon in China. What makes this special is that it will be the first phone in vivo’s Y-series to feature a whopping 200-megapixel main camera. This means clearer, more detailed photos for users.

The upcoming Y500 Pro is designed to build on the success of the earlier Y500 model. Boxiao mentioned the phone will arrive before the end of 2025. It will use a Samsung HP5 image sensor, offering that impressive 200-megapixel resolution. Plus, it will have a wider f/1.88 aperture. This wider opening lets in more light, which is great for capturing sharp details even in dim conditions.

For some context, the original vivo Y500, launched in early September 2025, already packed a punch for a mid-range phone. It featured a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset. This chip, released in April 2025, was made using a 4-nanometer process and could reach speeds up to 2.50 GHz. That phone also came with a large 8,200 mAh battery.

The Y500 Pro seems to share some DNA with another upcoming phone, the vivo V60e. This V60e model is set to launch in India in October 2025. It will also have a 200-megapixel main camera. It will add an 8-megapixel secondary camera and a 50-megapixel camera on the front for selfies.

Many of the V60e’s impressive features might also show up in the Y500 Pro. These include:

  • An AMOLED display with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • Flagship-level IP68/69 water and dust resistance. This protects the phone in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes and against high-pressure water up to 80 degrees Celsius.
  • A MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo mid-range chipset, running at up to 2.50 GHz.
  • 12 GB of RAM.
  • 256 GB of storage.
  • A 6,500 mAh battery with support for fast 90 W charging.

Vivo isn’t stopping there with its camera innovations. The company also plans to unveil its X300 flagship series in China on October 13, 2025. This high-end series will use a Samsung HPB flagship image sensor, also with 200 megapixels. This sensor is expected to be a custom, upgraded version of the 200-megapixel Samsung HP9. It’s clear that high-resolution photography is a big focus for vivo across different price points.
