Viseu Hosts International Sports Security Congress 2025 with FIFA, UEFA

The roar of the crowd, the tension of the game – sports events are electric. But keeping those moments safe for everyone takes serious work. That’s why Viseu is stepping up again to host a major international gathering. On October 14 and 15, the city will welcome the International Congress on Security, Protection, and Hospitality in Sports Events. This important meeting is put together by the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport, known as APCVD. Big names like FIFA and UEFA will send representatives, showing just how crucial these discussions are.

Previous congresses were a big hit. They drew over 2000 attendees from 14 different countries. This year’s event aims to build on that success. The APCVD wants to strengthen its efforts and push forward the important work it has started. Security managers, their assistants, event officials, local government technicians, and police forces will all come together. They will share real-life stories, exchange thoughts, and tackle the tough issues facing sports venues today. It’s all about creating a safer, more welcoming environment for fans.

This year’s agenda includes some headline acts from the international stage. FIFA will present a case study, offering a deep look into the planning for the 2025 Club World Cup. Another key discussion will focus on a persistent challenge: the use of pyrotechnics at sports grounds. UEFA-certified trainers will lead a special ‘Masterclass on Pyrotechnics’. Experts will gain tools to tackle this tricky problem during the session.

Kicking things off will be some prominent figures from Portugal’s government. Margarida Balseiro Lopes, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, will deliver the opening address. She will be joined by Fernando Ruas, the Mayor of Viseu. The congress will wrap up with words from Amadeu Guerra, the Attorney General, and Paulo Simões Ribeiro, the Deputy Secretary of State for Internal Administration. Their presence highlights the serious commitment to ensuring sports remain a source of joy, not trouble.
