Virender Sehwag Questions Shreyas Iyer’s Test Omission

The Indian team’s squad for the England tour has been announced, and there are some surprises. Shubman Gill will lead the team, while Karun Nair is back after eight years. Young players like Sai Sudarshan have also made the cut. However, Shreyas Iyer’s omission has raised eyebrows, especially given his impressive performance in the IPL.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has questioned the decision to leave Iyer out of the Test team. Sehwag thinks Iyer deserves a spot, considering his excellent form and captaincy in the IPL. He says Iyer can play all three formats and should be part of the Test team. Iyer has been one of the top batsmen in the IPL, scoring 488 runs in 13 matches.

Sehwag believes that when a player is in good form, they should be taken on tour. He thinks Iyer’s inclusion in the Test team would be beneficial, as he could put pressure on the opposition with his aggressive batting style. Iyer made his Test debut in 2021 and played his last Test against England in February 2024. He has scored 811 runs in 14 Tests, with one century and five half-centuries.

The selected team includes Shubman Gill as captain, Rishabh Pant as vice-captain, and other talented players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Washington Sundar. The team will face a tough challenge in England, but with the right combination of players, they can put up a good fight.
