Virat Kohli Retires: Childhood Coach Rajkumar Sharma Salutes Former Indian Captain’s Legacy

Virat Kohli, one of the world’s top batsmen, has hung up his whites after 123 Test matches for India.

A Legendary Career Ends

Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies and played his last Test against Australia on January 3, 2025.
He leaves behind an impressive record: 9230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 7 double centuries, 30 centuries, and 31 fifties.

Coach’s Tribute

Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, reacted to his retirement, saying, “I salute Kohli for his huge contribution to Indian cricket.”
Sharma added, “As a coach, I’m proud of what he’s done for the country and the example he’s set for young players.”
Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket is emotional for Sharma, who won’t see him play in whites again.

What’s Next?

Sharma hopes Kohli will focus on the ODI World Cup, saying, “I hope he’ll be there to help India win the ODI World Cup and be 100% committed to it.”
Kohli is one of India’s top run-scorers in Tests, ranking fourth on the list.
Only three Indian batsmen have scored more centuries than Kohli in Test cricket.
