Virat Kohli: The Indian Cricket Board on Saturday announced the squad for the three-match ODI series to be played on the Zimbabwe tour. Shikhar Dhawan was given the team captaincy once again for this series which will take place from August 18-22 due to the rest given to Rohit Sharma. At the same time, Virat Kohli’s name was missing from the team selected for the second consecutive tour.

However, from fans to cricket pundits, there was speculation as to whether Kohli would be in the squad for this tour. The 33-year-old former Indian captain played a total of six innings in all cricket formats from IPL 2022 till now and failed to score more than 20 runs in any innings. In such a situation, India’s star batsman struggling with poor form was believed to be part of the team on the Zimbabwe tour, but he stayed away from the team and the speculation market heated up once again. Amid all this, according to the PTI news agency, Kohli can be seen on the field with the team at the Asian Cup next month.

Speaking to PTI, an exclusive BCCI source said: “Virat had discussed with the selectors that he would be available to the team continuously from the Asian Cup. All the players in the team will not have any chance to rest after the Asian Cup. from Asia until the T20 World Cup is over, they will only have two weeks off after the Windies tour.

Some old faces will be seen on the Zimbabwe tour

Speaking of players returning to the squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, there will be some old faces to be seen later. Fast pitcher Deepak Chahar is back. He was away from the courts for the last five months due to injury. Taking into account the T20 World Cup that will take place later this year, the selectors decided to include him in the squad as soon as he was fit. Aside from Chahar, Washington Sundar, who is out due to injury, has also returned to the team. Sundar had made a great start to his career in the English county for Lancashire, but had to stop his journey midway due to injury.
