Virat Kohli Closes in on Sachin Tendulkar Record Before Champions Trophy

The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and England is scheduled to take place at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. All eyes will be on Virat Kohli’s return to the team after missing the first match due to knee swelling. The remaining matches in the series are crucial for India’s preparations ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, and Kohli has the opportunity to break a significant record held by Sachin Tendulkar in the second match.

Kohli’s pursuit of 14000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli has scored 13906 runs in the ODI format, with an average of 58.18 in 283 innings across 295 matches. To reach 14000 runs in ODIs, Kohli needs to score 94 runs, which would also make him the player to achieve this milestone in the fewest innings. This feat would surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record, who reached 14000 runs in his 350th innings in 2006. If successful, Kohli would become the third player to complete 14000 runs in ODIs, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

Kohli on the verge of breaking Sachin’s record

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs scored in international cricket against England, with 3990 runs. However, Kohli is just 12 runs away from breaking this record. Additionally, if Kohli scores 21 runs in the second ODI, he would become the sixth player to complete 4000 runs against England in international cricket.
