With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 just around the corner, excitement is building up, and fans are eagerly waiting for the first match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). What makes this season even more intriguing is that both teams will be led by new captains – Ajinkya Rahane for KKR and Rajat Patidar for RCB. The latter’s appointment as captain has been a recent development, and it’s generated quite a buzz.
Former RCB captain and batting legend Virat Kohli has now shared his thoughts on Patidar’s new role. Kohli, who has been the face of RCB since the league’s inception in 2008 and has led the team for over a decade, believes that Patidar will have a long and successful tenure as captain. Patidar takes over the reins from Faf du Plessis, who will now be playing for the Delhi Capitals. Interestingly, du Plessis hasn’t been handed the captaincy by his new team; instead, Axar Patel will lead the side, with du Plessis serving as his deputy.
During the team’s unboxing event on Monday, Kohli addressed RCB fans, saying, “This guy is going to be your captain for a long time. He’s got everything it takes to be successful. Every season brings its own excitement and joy. I’ve been playing for 18 years, and my love for RCB remains unwavering. We’ve got a fantastic team this time around, and I’m really excited.” Patidar, on the other hand, expressed his admiration for the legends who have played for RCB, including Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle, stating, “I’ve grown up watching these legends play for RCB, and I’ve always been a fan of the team. I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to captain such a big team in T20 cricket.”
As the stage is set for the 18th season of the IPL, fans are eager to see how these new captains will lead their teams. With the likes of Kohli, Rahane, and Patidar at the helm, this season promises to be an exciting one. The first match between KKR and RCB will undoubtedly set the tone for the rest of the tournament, and fans will be watching with bated breath to see which team comes out on top. Will KKR’s new captaincy bring them the success they’ve been craving, or will RCB’s fresh leadership propel them to victory? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – this season of the IPL is going to be an unforgettable ride.
