Violent Clashes Erupt Between Nacional and Peñarol Fans in Chaotic Scene

A significant police presence was notable during the classic match, with over 500 officers initially deployed around the stadium and a total of around 800 throughout the day.

The authorities reported a total of 12 arrests by the end of the operation, with 8 of these arrests occurring before the start of the game due to incidents near the Centenario stadium.

Incidents Involving Fans and Police

An incident occurred when the Peñarol team arrived at the stadium, as fans waiting in Anador and Navarra approached the team bus, leading to a police officer on a motorcycle colliding with a person and losing control of the vehicle.

This collision resulted in the police officer and a teammate falling, with both suffering minor injuries. There was one detainee following this incident, who had a blood alcohol level of 2.57, according to the breathalyzer test.

Inside the stadium, incidents involving flares occurred during the match, but as it is a private event, private security handled the situation.
