Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has been fined millions of riyals for violating drug laws.
According to Arab media reports, the Saudi Arabian Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has imposed fines of more than 1.5 million riyals for violating the drug surveillance system.
The Food and Drug Administration says 135 investigations have been conducted on drug traffickers in various cities and regions of Saudi Arabia.
The SFDA said that during the operations violations were observed in the supply of drugs and non-registration in the ‘observation’ system, as well as non-compliance with the prompt notification on the movement of drugs, on which action was taken.
It should be noted that the Saudi Food and Drug Authority has established a monitoring system called ‘Observatory’ to monitor the movement of all manufactured drugs across the country.
The system also ensures that drugs sold and purchased in Saudi Arabia are not counterfeit.
