Vingegaard: “We will only relax when we finish in Paris”

In the final part of the stage, close to entering the town of Bourg-en-Bresse, the leader Jonas Vingegaard appeared in the forward positions of the peloton, which tried, without success, to go after the escapees. “I only did it to keep myself safe, not for anything else,” the Dane said of his performance. The Jumbo rider took the opportunity to congratulate his compatriot Asgreen on his success: “I am very happy that Kasper has won the stage. I know he’s struggled in the last year, so it’s nice to see him succeeding again. During the race we always talk a bit, like all the Danes in the peloton. It’s nice to have compatriots to talk to.”

Despite his high income at the head of the general classification, Jonas, obviouslyhe does not want to take his second conquest in the Tour de France for granted yet: “My strategy for the next few days is simply. It’s nothing more than staying focused and avoiding problems with the help of my teammates, who did a phenomenal job yesterday. We will only relax when the stage in Paris is over”.

Before leaving in Moutiers, the Dane was questioned by Pogacar, whom he took the opportunity to extol: “Tadej is the best in the world. It is very complete and I can only say good things about it. Plus, he’s a great guy. Later, in the press room and after rolling to recover, Vingegaard revealed in detail where he does his altitude training throughout the year: “We have different locations. In February we go to Tenerife, to Mount Teide. In May, to Sierra Nevada”. As usual, Spain is one of the great cycling destinations, especially in winter. This is all part of Vingegaard’s famous plan, which he always quotes, and to which only three stages remain to be crowned in Paris.
