Villeneuve Backs Sainz as Replacement for Pérez at Red Bull

Villeneuve: "I would replace Checo with Sainz at Red Bull"

F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve Suggests Carlos Sainz as Replacement for Checo Pérez at Red Bull

Former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has expressed his opinion on who should replace Checo Pérez at Red Bull, should he not retain his seat. Villeneuve, who is now a commentator and regular in the World Cup paddock, believes that Carlos Sainz would be the ideal candidate to replace Pérez.

Lack of Suitable Replacement at Red Bull

According to Villeneuve, there is no suitable replacement for Pérez within the Red Bull family. He cited Yuki Tsunoda as a volatile driver who is still inconsistent, and Liam Lawson as not having the experience to replace Pérez.

Carlos Sainz as the Best Bet

Villeneuve assessed that his best bet to replace Pérez at Red Bull is Carlos Sainz, citing his ability to perform for any team he drives for. Villeneuve believes that Sainz would be a great first step in Red Bull’s rebuild.

Antonelli Not Ready for F1

Villeneuve also shared his thoughts on Kimi Antonelli, who is being touted as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. Villeneuve believes that Mercedes is exaggerating Antonelli’s abilities and that he is probably not yet ready to race in F1.

Mercedes’ Assessment of Antonelli

Villeneuve questioned Mercedes’ assessment of Antonelli, citing their claim that he was faster in testing than George Russell. Villeneuve found it strange that Mercedes is trying to promote Antonelli, but no other team is making an effort to sign him.

Hamilton’s Potential at Ferrari

Finally, Villeneuve expressed his opinion on Lewis Hamilton’s potential at Ferrari. He believes that if Hamilton can win a championship with Ferrari, he will undoubtedly go down in history as the greatest F1 driver of all time, in any generation.
